Car FAQs
Membership
Download the EVie App and complete your application. Once your membership has been approved, you’ll receive an email confirmation. You’ll need this to log in and reserve.
Please allow up to 3-5 business days for it to be processed. The approval process is simple, and we do work fast to get you on the road as soon as we possibly can. We will need to authorise your credit card and also verify your driver’s license is valid. International members may take longer to get approved.
You need to be over 23 years to be eligible for an EVie membership
Only the person making the booking can drive the vehicle.
Reservations
Vehicles can be booked for a minimum of 1 hour and a maximum of 7 days. If you require a reservation extension, a minimum of 30 minutes can be added.
Just log in to the EVie app, choose the beginning and end time you want a vehicle for and you will see the vehicles that are free for you to use for that time. Click “Book”. You can make a reservation 24/7 with as little or as much notice as you like.
The vehicle details will be visible on your selection. This includes vehicle make, name and model
If you’re interested in reserving a vehicle for more than 7 days, please send an email to [email protected]. Please note, this is not part of our normal service and we hold the right to decline such requests. Criteria includes vehicle availability, location and membership history.
Payment for reservation is usually charged when you book. If any additional charges are incurred during your trip these will be added at the end of the reservation.
Providing that another member does not have a reservation immediately after yours, you can extend your trip using the EVie app
Reservations can be cancelled on the Evie app. Head to the ‘my trips’ and select the reservation that needs to be cancelled.
Since this is a community, cancelling as soon as possible will allow another Member to reserve the vehicle. If you decide you no longer want the vehicle, you need to allow us time to offer the vehicle out to someone else.
- for a Rental Period of less than eight (8) hours, you must do so at least three (3) hours before the scheduled start time of the Rental Period; and
- for Rental Period of eight (8) hours or more, you must do so at least twenty four (24) hours before the scheduled start time of the Rental Period.
If you cancel or shorten a reservation outside of the applicable window, you may be subject to charges or cancellation fees, as further described in the Fees and Additional Charges Schedule.
If you would like to keep the car overnight, discounted overnight rates may apply. Check our website or contact us for more information.
Driving

- Comprehensive collision coverage
- Third party property damage coverage up to £2,000,000
- Unlimited coverage for third party death or bodily injury

No, there are no distance limitations except you cannot go off-island! Please be aware that electric vehicles need to be recharged!
Car sharing is not a one-way rental program, so for the time being your vehicle must be returned to the original, reserved, parking area where you picked it up. This allows it to be easily found and used by the next member.
The keys are secured on a key tether attached to the dashboard. If you need to make a stop during your reservation, take the keys from the tether to lock and unlock the vehicle as normal. Please make sure you put the keys back into the key tether slot. The key tether detects when the keys are present. YOUR RESERVATION CAN ONLY BE TERMINATED IF YOU PUT THE KEY BACK IN THE SLOT. To avoid late return fees, make sure the keys are back where they should be – in the key slot on the tether.
Charging up your vehicle
Power is on us!
One of the responsibilities of membership is to recharge the vehicle when it clearly needs it. We have set a benchmark of 25 mile charge below which it is the responsibility of the member to recharge the vehicle. This can be done at any EVie or Evolve charging point on the island. There is an Evolve card in each vehicle.
We are in the process of obtaining planning permissions for EVie branded chargepoints at dedicated EVie parking spots.
When these become available, we will ask you to plug your vehicle in after each booking. All fees for charging are included in your booking.
Until we get EVie charging points, we need to use the existing Evolve network. We endeavour to have the vehicles charged overnight ready for action the next day. However, if you need to charge during your rental there are several ways to do so.
If you see the charge level dropping below 25 mile range, we need you to visit either an EVie or Evolve charging station. There is an Evolve charge card in each vehicle and all charging fees are booked to EVie, not you. In the event you do pay for a charge, please send us a copy of the receipt along with your booking reference by email and we will reimburse you.
For a recharge at either an EVie or Evolve chargepoint, either use the lead provided by the chargepoint, or the lead in the vehicle to attach to the chargepoint. Follow the instructions on the chargepoint. Use your Evolve chargecard to pay for the charge. Please be advised it can take several hours to fully recharge the vehicle. This is recommended ONLY for FULL DAY bookings.
There is a home charge lead that works with a regular three pin plug in your vehicle. For a home charge, please be advised this will take several hours for a full recharge. Simply plug the home charge lead into a three pin plug and the other end into the vehicle’s charge socket. This is recommended ONLY for 24hr bookings.
You will not be charged for recharging. If, for any reason, you pay for a recharge at an Evolve charging point yourself, please send us a copy of the receipt along with your booking reference by email and we will reimburse you.
Please note, it is not possible to reimburse you for any home charging you may do
Finding my vehicle
Each EVie vehicle has its own Dedicated EVie Parking Spot. This is where you will collect your vehicle from at the beginning of your reservation and return it to when you’re finished.
You will have chosen a pick up point using the EVie app. We will confirm this in an email.
Occasionally, you might arrive to begin your trip and have difficulty finding the vehicle. It may be slightly out of location or is running a little behind schedule with the previous member. Here are a few tips to get you to the vehicle:
- It’s always worth briefly walking further down the street or into nearby junctions to see your EVie has been parked around the corner.
- Ensure you have read the location instructions in your reservation confirmation email. Very rarely bays can be suspended by the council, so we’ll provide you with the alternative location directions.
- Check to see if we’ve called you, or emailed you with updated information detailing any issues which might be affecting your reservation
If you’re still unable to find the vehicle, please call us on 01534 510462.
Use your EVie app to locate your reservation and follow the onscreen instruction on how to unlock the vehicle using the App.
If you get to dedicated EVie parking spot and your car is not there, call us and we will assist you by locating the vehicle or switching your reservation to another available vehicle.
Vehicles need to be returned to the same dedicated EVie parking spot at the end of your reservation. Information detailing the location of the bay can be found in your reservation confirmation email. If there are any changes to the spot, these will be detailed in the email.
If you’re unable to park in the dedicated EVie parking spot at the end of your reservation, we’ve got back up plans for all our locations. Please call us on 01534 510462
You will not be able to park your own personal vehicle in the dedicated EVie parking sSpot during your reservation.
To end your reservation, please complete the following steps. Check that:
- The vehicle is parked safely in its Dedicated EVie Parking Spot before the end of your reservation time
- The vehicle has at least a 25 mile charge range
- The keys have been returned to the holder on the tether (please note, your reservation will not end unless the keys are replaced)
- Your Evolve charge card has been returned to the holder on the tether (please note, your reservation will not end unless the keys are replaced)
- All personal belongings are to be taken with you (and any rubbish)
- The vehicle has been locked using the Evie app
If the dedicated EVie parking spot is taken or blocked, please call us as soon as you can on 01534 510462 so we can guide you to park in a safe alternative. Blocked bays are out of our control. However, we always do our best to assist and guide our members if this happens.
The key to car-sharing success is returning on time. This is one of our most important membership rules. Members who are late will impact others who have a reservation right afterwards.
If you know you’re going to be late, try extending your booking using the app before the end of your reserved time. If another member is waiting, you will be unable to extend the reservation and the vehicle will need to be returned to its dedicated EVie parking spot.
If there’s no reservation immediately after yours, we can extend your reservation without a problem.
If your extension or late return delays another Member a minimum late fee of £35.00 per hour plus the hourly rate will apply. Late returns are a NO NO! Please see Fees and Additional Charges.
Please see the below list of tips to avoid late return fees:
- We’ll send you reminders about your reservation and let you know if you can extend the reservation
- When booking, make sure you allow enough time for the ENTIRE trip
- Leave your destination on time. Allow some cushion for traffic delays too.

The Member is responsible for paying for all traffic or parking tickets while using an EVie vehicle. If you incur a parking or speed violation, it is wise to pay the associated fines as soon as possible. Any violations we receive on your behalf will be transferred to your name by the parking/ speeding authority or directly billed to you by EVie. Please note that an administrative fee will apply. Please see the Additional Charges [LINK].
No! Smoking in our vehicles is not permitted. That would be unfair for those who do not smoke. Please note that there is a fine for any smoking in our vehicles. Please see the Fees and Additional Charges.
We will clean EVie vehicles on a regular schedule. Since this is a car sharing community and the cars cannot be cleaned after every use, be sure to leave the vehicle in good condition for the next Member by taking your personal belongings and removing any rubbish upon exiting the vehicle. If you find the interior of the car is dirty at the beginning of your reservation, please send us some pictures to [email protected]. The offending Member will be charged a cleaning fee. Please see the Fees and Additional Charges.
In the event of a breakdown, flat tyre or other problem, call us immediately so we can dispatch our 24-hour roadside assistance.
In the case of an accident, an accident checklist can be found in the glove box. Call the Police to make a report and fill out the accident checklist. Please notify us of the accident immediately so that we can create a report of the information you collect and assist you in any way possible. We’ll be sure to make alternate arrangements for the next EVie Member that has a reservation for that vehicle.
Members may be responsible for damage. Liability and Damage Waiver coverage may be included in your Membership, and varies by the program chosen. If you are in an accident with another vehicle, we will respond to claims from other parties and any excess is payable as per the program chosen.
We don’t want to hold you responsible for damage that existed prior to your use of the car. Please take a few minutes before you drive to inspect the car prior to each rental. If you notice any damages, please send us pictures using the EVie app. These are filed in a Damage Log for each vehicle so we can identify which booking they occurred under. If it is easier, please email the pictures along with your booking reservation number to [email protected] and call 01534 510462 to report. Call us immediately to report any problems so that we can document the vehicle’s condition prior to your use and, if needed, make other arrangements for you.
Please contact us by email to [email protected] to cancel your Membership so that we can review your account.
Six Simple Rules of the Road
We only have a few rules, but they are important to ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone. Please read up on the rules of car sharing before you take your first trip.
Before you drive away, inspect your vehicle inside and out. While we expect the previous member to leave the vehicle in a good condition, it is important to report any issues at the beginning of your reservation so we know it wasn’t you. Check the damage log to see if the issue has already been reported. If it has, don’t worry, you don’t need to report it again.
To report any damage, a dirty vehicle or low charge, email [email protected].
Take your personal belongings with you and recycle or dispose of any rubbish. Remember, someone’s going to drive the car after you so it’s important you keep the vehicle in good condition during and at the end of your reservation.
Always leave at least a 25 mile charge. (It’s on us!)
Remember that recharging is free. If you’re running low during your reservation, use the Evolve card at any Evolve chargepoint. The Evolve charge card can be found in the tether with the car keys.
Not even with all the windows down or all the doors open. Members found smoking will be charged a fee for the cost of cleaning.
Pets can only travel in an EVie vehicle if they are kept in a locked carrier. Service and assistance animals used by disabled members or passengers are an exception, and are allowed in the vehicle without a pet carrier. Do be aware of others with pet allergies and ensure you clean up any stray pet hair at the end of your reservation.
If you find the interior of the car is dirty at the beginning of your reservation, please send us some pictures to [email protected]. The offending Member may be charged a cleaning fee.
Late members can end up impacting others who have the reservation after you. To avoid returning late, always make sure to book the EVie vehicle for the time you need. Need more time? Just extend your booking via the app. EVie does take late returns seriously and we will charge a £35 fee if you return late for each hour, up to 3 hours.
